Training and professional development is something that we take seriously at Calon Lan.

We know that the excellent reputation we have achieved over the past 10 years can only be maintained by committing to selecting and training the very best Care Workers. This is why we invest so much time, energy and resources into the training and on-going development of all of our staff.

We have a determination at Calon Lan to continuously develop our own in-house training programme as well as proper facilities to ensure that we continue to build on the successes that we have established over the years.  Our Managing Director has been able to develop a unique training experience using industry guidance and his education qualifications.  We believe that to be a well rounded care worker you must combine knowledge with on the job support and guidance.

At Calon Lan we are currently developing a purpose built Centre of Excellence to host our training. The centre will be built to simulate a Client’s home so that we can train our care workers without disturbing anyone. We will have a bedroom, bathroom, sitting room and kitchen with all the equipment a Care Worker may use when assisting you with people with their daily living.

Our Care Worker Training Week – Making Calon Lan Care Workers the Best

The training team will lead you though a number of classroom sessions and practical activities designed specifically to give you the skills and knowledge to ensure that you are happy and confident in your role. When you graduate from our you will be the best care worker you can be.

On the care training week you’ll learn about:

  • Understating your role and duty of care
  • Mental Capacity Act and DoLS
  • Handling information
  • End of life care
  • Management of medicines
  • Manual handling of people
  • Infection control & food hygiene
  • Person centred care
  • Safeguarding adults and children
  • Nutrition and Diabetes
  • Health & safety at work
  • Pressure area care
  • Basic Life Support
  • Stroke and Parkinson’s
  • Dementia awareness

We have designed the care training week to ensure that everyone can get involved. Our training team is always around during breaks and lunch times to answer any questions and to provide one-to-one support.

All of our training has been developed in line with the Social Care Wales and Skills for Care standards.  Both organisations look at attitudes, values, skills and qualifications necessary to provide the best quality care.

Our Training programme is headed by our Managing Director, Noel Williams, (PG Cert Prof. Ed.) who oversees training which is delivered by our team of skilled and experienced trainers.

“The training received is the best Ive ever had. I learnt so much last time that I am looking forward to my next session. I can take what I’ve learned with me to all my clients and be sure that what I’m doing is the very best approach as the training comes from people who have been carers themselves and that makes a huge difference.”
